Babymoon and Other Updates

The last time I posted was only a few days after the "big" ultrasound, where realistically the only thing I found out that day was that the baby was a boy.  Since then, we've met with the doctor.  All is well with the little man.  All of the various genetic screening test (down syndrome, etc) came back negative which was a huge relief to this paranoid Momma-to-be.  Turns out, my son is going to be a big baby!  His head is in the 75th percentile, and my uterus is several inches higher than it normally would be for 24 weeks.  I guess his Wisconsin genes are already manifesting.

I'm in my 24th week of pregnancy, and feeling big, but pretty good.  I can't imagine what I'm going to look like at 34 weeks.  Good God.  My biggest pregnancy complaints right now are lack of sleep and lack of oxygen.  I've always worked out, and being pregnant wasn't going to change that - until recently.  I can't even walk up half a flight of stairs without my heart rate sky rocketing, and me getting so out of breath that I feel dizzy and nauseous.  After a few consecutive weeks of getting to the gym, attempting to work out, and leaving within 15 minutes because I felt so sick, I've decided to put my membership on hold for a while.  I'm attempting to do the home work out thing, using different programs that we already have here.  I've tried a couple of prenatal DVD's, but I don't feel "worked out" after them.  Hopefully there's a happy medium somewhere.

The baby is definitely a mover and a shaker, which I kind of love.  I've felt him for a while now, but Ryan and other people can finally feel him kick.  The first night that Ryan felt it, he was a little freaked out, equating our son to a little alien.  This is definitely my favorite part of pregnancy!

On Monday we returned home from our Babymoon Cruise.  The two stops were in Key West and Cozumel. We had a great time, but I have to admit, I did miss the poolside cocktails.  It was definitely relaxing which is exactly what we needed.

In Key West we just wandered around, spending some time at the original Margaritaville.  No, not for the margaritas.  My cousin Kris, who passed away last summer, lived in Key West for a while years ago, and worked at Margaritaville.  It was his love of Jimmy Buffett that took him to the Keys in the first place.  It was wonderful to feel his presence all around.  We even bought the baby his first Buffett t-shirt (onesie) in honor of Kris.

In Cozumel, instead of doing the normal snorkling type of excursion, we took a food tour.  The tour is hosted by a young American chef who's been living in Cozumel for few years.  She took us around to 5 or 6 different places to try local food from little hole-in-the-wall places.  Perfect for the always starving pregnant woman.
We had a great time!!  I'm so glad that we were able to take one last trip alone before the little one arrives.

Fresh from the ocean that morning -- a whole fried fish (it was actually delicious!)

Next adventures -- Amanda and Mike's California Wedding later this month, and starting to tackle the nursery.  Stay tuned.
